Kimberley Digi Van

Digi Van brings young West Kimberley voices to the mic

The Kimberley Digi Van takes music production, podcasting, filmmaking and photography to young people across the West Kimberley.

An initiative of The Skill Engineer, this mobile digital media studio brings professional equipment and experienced creative mentors to schools, communities and local organisations, opening up opportunities for young people to experiment, develop skills and tell their own stories.

    Creativity that travels

Distance shouldn’t determine who gets the chance to create.
The Digi Van brings the studio to young people, providing hands-on opportunities to explore:
    • Music production, songwriting and recording
    • Rapping, beats and sound engineering
    • Podcasting and audio storytelling
    • Filmmaking, videography and photography
Working alongside creative mentors, participants can try something new, explore their interests and turn their ideas into something they can share.
We work with schools and community partners to shape activities around the interests of young people and the local setting, with respect for culture, Country and community.

    On the road with Marlamanu

The Kimberley Digi Van travelled approximately 260 kilometres from Broome to join Marlamanu’s Aboriginal-led, on-Country school for a week of music, rapping, film and photography.
Set on a working pastoral station, Marlamanu offers a learning environment that connects culture, Country and practical skills. The partnership brought digital storytelling into that setting, giving young people opportunities to explore their ideas with professional equipment and creative support.
Our team worked alongside the young people, supporting them to experiment with sound, get behind the camera and express themselves through music and storytelling.
The visit reflects what the Digi Van is here to do: take creative opportunities beyond a traditional studio and into the places where young people live and learn.
Thank you to KRED Enterprises, Gro Foundation, Shire of Broome and Woodside Energy for supporting this collaboration.
