Skills On Point
Work Placement Work ReadinessStudents
Skills on Point is designed to:
- Help prepare you for work placement
- Give you confidence to attend your work placement
- Build on your workplace ready skills
- Understand the occupational health and safety responsibilities of your work placement.
The true value of work placement is to gain a taste-tester of occupations and industries. It will also help you to build relationships with local businesses in your area. It will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Develop employability skills
- Explore possible career options
- Understand employer expectations
It can be a challenging time when you’re finishing school and looking to join the workforce, especially if you have no work experience or employers you can list as a referee on your resume. Work placement is one of the best ways to introduce you to the world of work. Many work placement students find a part time job with their host employer or are offered an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Our Skills on Point resources are aimed to encourage you to ‘give it a go’, even if you’re not sure about what career you want. Work placement will build your confidence, create a sense of post school purpose, and give you insights into future career pathways and options.
Teachers
The Skill Engineer (TSE) can organise a staff member or industry expert to attend your school and speak to students about getting ready for their work placement. Please reach out to your TSE contact to arrange this.
