Connecting Cultural Pathways

The Connecting Cultural Pathways program supports First Nations youth in connecting to their Country and culture and navigating the transition to high school. It aims to foster a strong sense of identity and purpose while empowering them to create positive impacts in their communities.

The program uses a holistic culturally based approach, addressing barriers to educational engagement, celebrating First Nations history, retelling stories, participating in cultural activities, connecting to Country, learning kinship, and acquiring language.

Key components of the program include conflicting educational values, family and peer relationship demands, emotions, building respectful relationships, resilience, important life skills, and empowerment.

It consists of 5 x 2-hour sessions + a whole day excursion delivered on school sites and ‘On Country,’ facilitated by the Cultural Coordinator (Alison Preece) and the local Traditional Owner. Times and days will be negotiated with each school due to limited spots.

Students will have the opportunity to attend an overnight cultural camp upon completing the program.

The Connecting Cultural Pathways program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students aged 12 to 18 on the Central Coast, initially focusing on the Woy Woy Peninsula.
