Work Placement

The Skill Engineer Ltd will deliver coordination services for mandatory Higher School Certificate (HSC) Vocational Education and Training (VET) work placements from 2021 to 2025 across the Central Coast and Northern Sydney.

Work placement is a mandatory component of vocational education and training (VET) courses, that students can choose as part of their studies for the NSW Higher School Certificate.

The thirteen industry based VET courses are:

    • Entertainment Industry
    • Human Services
    • Retail Services
    • Metals and Engineering
      • Business Services
      • Financial Services
      • Information and Digital Technology
      • Travel and Events
        • Electrotechnology
        • Hospitality
        • Primary Industries
        • Construction

Work placements enable students to understand how classroom skills translate to a workforce setting, and provide a solid foundation for future employment.

The Skill Engineer liaises with local schools with secondary enrolments, EVET providers and employers to coordinate HSC VET work placements for all eligible students within the service region.

Each year a number of employers across the Central Coast and Northern Sydney host student work placements. Host employers are integral to the success of the Work Placement Program and play an important role in a young person’s journey to becoming work ready.

          Benefits to employers:

          • Contribute to training our future workforce by offering on-the-job learning opportunities;
          • Assess the potential of young workers in your industry
          • Demonstrate good community spirit and raise your business profile
          • Increase the supervisory, training and mentoring skills of your staff
