Youth, Sound, Mind, Style

WHO
Youth aged 12-18

WHEN
Youth, Sound, Mind, Style runs from September to December 2024, covering Terms 3 and 4, with six community outreach projects planned.

WHERE
YSMS offers an outreach service to remote communities in the Kullarri region in the West Kimberley.

WHAT
Youth, Sound, Mind, Style (YSMS) is a mobile one-stop shop offering music, free haircuts and accidental counselling. The project is dedicated to tackling youth disengagement, influencing young people to make positive life choices, enhancing self-esteem, building resilience and facilitating education, training, employment and civic connections within our community.

YSMS brings vulnerable young people into a community setting where they can build their confidence and self-esteem and meet peers, educators, youth workers and community members who will be the backbone to their involvement in community life and who will be a support when responding to the issues that impact their young lives.

Having a haircut, “chilling” with music, leaning and practising personal hygiene, and connecting with community are life skills that will stay with a young person for a lifetime.

Youth, Sound, Mind, Style is supported by the Government of Western Australia Department of Communities.
